Climate Intervention Network

DSG’s Youth Engagement Program established the Climate Intervention Network (CIN) as a platform designed to provide early career people with access to diverse, science-based information and to foster constructive engagement in deliberations about solar geoengineering. CIN unites early career academics and professionals from around the world and across disciplines, encouraging collaboration on climate-altering technologies with a focus on solar geoengineering. By building this global community, we aim to ensure a supportive environment for knowledge and opportunity sharing, while contributing to evidence-based policymaking that supports intergenerational justice.

Why the Climate Intervention Network?
Many young academics, especially in social sciences and humanities, lack opportunities to connect with peers working on climate intervention topics, particularly solar geoengineering. This siloed structure limits interdisciplinary exchange and discourages new researchers from pursuing this field. CIN aims to break down these barriers by creating a collaborative, cross-disciplinary platform that fosters learning and support across different regions and fields of study. Through this network, young researchers will be better positioned to contribute to the growing conversation on SG governance and justice, ultimately playing a vital role in assisting policymakers in the coming years.

CIN is intended to serve as a dedicated space for young professionals and early-career individuals (up to the age of 35) to connect, receive mentorship, and collaborate with their peers. This network is designed to foster the next generation of leaders in climate intervention governance. While the network focuses on emerging professionals, DSG is aiming to create broader initiatives and events in the coming year where more experienced professionals can engage, share insights, and contribute to advancing the field. Stay tuned for these opportunities as they develop.

What does it mean to join CIN?
As a member of CIN, you’ll be connected to a global community of early career professionals and academics interested in climate-altering technologies. You’ll gain opportunities to exchange knowledge, learn from experts, and engage in critical discussions in a safe and inclusive environment. Activities include:

  • Presentations from external speakers on various climate intervention topics
  • Opportunities for early career researchers to present their work and receive feedback
  • A book club featuring both fiction and non-fiction works relevant to the field
  • In-person meetups during global events
  • Collaborative projects and initiatives suggested by the group

We foster open, respectful communication through Slack and email, ensuring all voices are heard while accommodating various time zones. CIN is free to join, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination of any kind. If you’re interested in joining, please fill out this form.
