On the global stage, DSG’s commitment to fostering inclusive and transparent dialogue on SG was showcased when Alia Hassan, DSG’s Director of International Policy, addressed the UN General Assembly High-level plenary on existential threats posed by sea level rise. Alia emphasized the importance of ensuring that member states be equipped with the best available science to make informed decisions about SG, and called on the General Assembly to support the development of an inclusive and transparent governance framework for SRM that prioritizes equity and safeguards for vulnerable populations.
This moment at the UN not only spotlighted DSG’s role in the international climate discourse but also reinforced the message from Climate Week: climate interventions like SG must be approached with humility, transparency, and above all, inclusivity. For nations facing existential threats, having access to informed, ethical research on SG is not just a matter of academic inquiry, it’s about survival.
