Climate Week NYC: Moving beyond polarization on climate interventions

September 25 @ 10:00 12:00 EDT

Join The Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering (DSG) and The International Center for Future Generations (ICFG) during Climate Week NYC as we bring together complementary experts and stakeholders to discuss their perspectives on climate intervention governance. The event aims to shift the narrative around Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) beyond polarization and foster a more nuanced, human-centered discussion.

Participants will learn why stakeholders feel compelled to explore the need for SRM—recognizing that while this is not a solution on its own and should never be proposed as such, it may offer a potential additional response to the escalating challenges posed by climate change.

The event will focus on the need for well-governed research on SRM, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and democratic consideration in its exploration. The event will underscore the need for transparency, public engagement, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including communities most vulnerable to climate impacts. The discussion will advocate for an ethical framework that ensures any research or potential deployment of SRM is conducted with care and accountability. By convening voices from multiple sectors and backgrounds, the event seeks to humanize the SRM conversation and highlight the collective goal of safeguarding the planet for future generations.

Through respectful dialogue and a commitment to inclusivity, this event aims to demonstrate that finding common ground on solar geoengineering is not only possible but essential to fill the many knowledge gaps of this emerging field so policy makers can make informed decisions.
